Ohme charger offline: how to fix it
Ohme lists three causes for an offline charger: weaker 4G, a firmware update that has just finished, or a tripped breaker. A power-cycle is its first fix. On Intelligent Octopus Go the stakes are higher, because a charger that is offline at plug-in charges at the peak rate.

The short answer
- Ohme's three causes
- 4G, update, breaker
- Weaker 4G in your area, a firmware update that has just finished, or the charger's breaker off or tripped.
- First fix
- Power-cycle
- Unplug the car, switch off the charger's breaker, wait 15 minutes, switch it back on.
- Offline on Intelligent Octopus Go
- Max charge at peak rate
- Ohme says this applies even from 23:30 to 05:30. At 36.7p instead of 7.6p, 30kWh costs about £11.01 not £2.28.
- Is it online?
- Green dot
- The app's My Charger page shows Online. The Home Pro screen should not read Connecting or Scanning.
- Warranty
- 3 years
- Parts and labour, including on-site help. Ohme covers the 4G data for the first three years.
Do not plug in until the app says Online. If it keeps dropping off, contact Ohme’s Customer Care with photos of the charger and its breaker.
Figures checked on 10 October 2026.
Why an Ohme goes offline
Ohme’s Home Pro and ePod connect through a built-in multi-network 4G SIM, so they do not depend on your home Wi-Fi. That helps on a driveway the router cannot reach, but it ties the charger to the mobile signal at your wall. Ohme’s support page lists three causes: a decrease in 4G connectivity in your area, the completion of a firmware update, and the breaker being turned off or tripped. A UK Wi-Fi and Bluetooth variant of both models appears in Ohme’s installation guide, though its shop markets the 4G version.
Owners report more. On the Speak EV forum, users describe Home Pro units that drop their connection and then default to Max charge, billed at peak, and a platform outage on 16 to 19 August 2024 left chargers unable to reach Ohme or Octopus. In July 2025 an app fault showed spurious “tamper” and offline alerts until Ohme fixed it server-side. These are forum reports, not Ohme statements. A May 2026 thread concerns a unit about four years old going offline after its warranty ended; the thread includes an Ohme statement that firmware updates continue after the warranty.
What offline means on Intelligent Octopus Go
Intelligent Octopus Go normally gives 7.6p per kWh for up to six hours of smart charging in each 24. Ohme builds that schedule, so it needs the charger online when you plug in. If it is offline, Ohme says it starts a Max charge automatically. The car still charges, but without the app connection, and Ohme states that “All Max charging is billed at peak rates, including between 11:30pm and 5:30am”.
The day rate runs from 34.96p to 38.82p by region. At the 36.7p average, a 30kWh charge costs about £11.01 against £2.28 at the smart rate, a difference of £8.73 by our arithmetic. We found no Ohme or Octopus page promising a refund for a Max charge caused by a connection fault, so check your Octopus usage after any night the charger was offline.
Step-by-step fixes
Check the status
In the Ohme app open My Charger. Online with a green dot is good. On a Home Pro the screen should not show "Connecting to the internet", "Scanning cell towers" or "Trying to reconnect". On an ePod the rightmost LED blinks orange while it connects, and the left of the bar is solid green when it is online.
Check the breaker1 minute
Find the charger's dedicated breaker, either a stand-alone switch or in the fuse box, probably labelled EV charger. If it has tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, stop and call your installer.
Power-cycle the charger20 minutes
Unplug the charger from the car. Switch off its breaker. Leave it off for 15 minutes to drain the remaining power, then switch on. Ohme says it should reboot, come back online and install any updates.
Give it time
After a reboot or update the charger needs a few minutes to find the network. Check the status again before plugging in.
Check your tariff link
If both your car and your charger are linked to Intelligent Octopus Go, Ohme and Octopus may try to control charging at once. Choose one in the Octopus app. For the charger route, charging is managed through the Ohme app only.
Contact Customer Care
If it will not come back online or keeps dropping, use the chat on Ohme's support pages. Send photos of the charger and cables, the main meter and supply cables, and the dedicated breaker.
If you use an Ohme Go (an older, unplug-after-use model), Ohme says it should not need a power-cycle, so contact the team if it cannot reach the server.
Before you plug in
- Check the app shows Online so that Ohme can build a schedule.
- After plugging in, confirm the session reads “Scheduled” or “Smart charging”.
- Avoid running two systems. Ohme warns that a car also linked to the tariff can leave a session charging little or not at all.
- If charging is slow rather than off, check the car’s AC limit, the car profile in the app and the CT clamp. Ohme says a missing, misfitted or faulty clamp can cap charging at 16A, about 3.7 to 3.8kW. See our CT clamp guide.
When to escalate
The Home Pro and ePod carry a three-year warranty covering parts and labour with on-site help, according to Ohme. TechRadar reports that Ohme confirmed it has no plans to charge for the 4G connection after three years. Your installer also owes you a workmanship guarantee: contact them for a tripped breaker, a failed clamp or anything on the supply side. In What Car?’s 2025 owner survey, a page sponsored by Pod, 13% of Ohme owners reported a fault and 27% of problems went unresolved. Read the figures as brand-level indications.
If offline problems recur, compare our Home Pro review with the ePod review, or see our general guide to a charger that will not charge.
