myenergi Zappi vs Hypervolt Home 3 Pro
The zappi is the solar specialist, with a surplus-only mode, a three-phase version and an untethered option. The Hypervolt is the better-built unit with the better owner record. Both work with Intelligent Octopus Go and OVO Charge Anytime.

The short answer
- Pick the zappi if
- Solar surplus is the priority
- Eco+ uses surplus only. Also untethered, 22kW three-phase, and made in the UK.
- Pick the Hypervolt if
- Build quality and owner record matter most
- IP66 and IK10, 10m cable, Battery Safe mode, first in the What Car? 2025 owner survey.
- Fitted from (OVO)
- £949 vs £1,099
- Elsewhere the zappi is usually a little dearer. myenergi publishes no fitted price.
- Our scores
- 7.0 vs 7.2
- Hypervolt ranks third and the zappi fifth in our ranking of 11.
This is mainly a solar question. For a home without panels the Hypervolt is the safer all-round pick. For a home with panels and a driveway that is not exposed, the zappi earns its extra size.

myenergi zappi against Hypervolt Home 3 Pro. Prices and specs checked 10 October 2026 from manufacturers and UK retailers.
Price
For the unit alone, the Hypervolt is cheaper: £690 against £779 for an untethered 7kW zappi direct from myenergi, which publishes no fitted price. Fitted, the picture depends on who is quoting. OVO lists the zappi from £949 and the Hypervolt from £1,099, with more for a longer Hypervolt cable.
Independent installers tell a different story. Charge EV North West quotes the Hypervolt from £1,045 and the zappi from £1,095. Charge At Home quotes £1,060 and £1,142, and Mint Energy £1,159 and £1,190. Renew-Able Solutions is the exception, with the zappi at £1,099 and the Hypervolt at £1,139. Treat these as entry prices for a standard job. Our installation cost guide covers what pushes a quote up.
Smart features and tariffs
Octopus lists both as generally available for Intelligent Octopus Go, and both work with OVO Charge Anytime. The zappi’s OVO support covers the 2.1 and GLO models and needs the latest firmware and the CT clamp fitted the right way round. The Hypervolt is controlled in “Octopus mode” from the Octopus app and keeps a stored schedule if it goes offline.
Connectivity is similar: both have Wi-Fi and Ethernet and neither has 4G. The Hypervolt adds Bluetooth, and advises a Wi-Fi booster if signal falls below -60dBm. myenergi says the zappi needs a 24-hour internet connection to operate under the Smart Charge Points Regulations. Neither advertises OCPP. The zappi sits in an ecosystem of the eddi hot-water diverter, libbi battery and harvi wireless clamp, which matters if you already own myenergi kit.
Solar
The zappi has three modes. Eco blends solar with grid power, Fast ignores solar, and Eco+ uses surplus only and pauses rather than import. A grid CT clamp is in the box, with three on the three-phase model.
The Hypervolt has Boost, Eco, Super Eco (solar only) and Battery Safe, which stops it draining a home battery and needs a second CT clamp at £25. The main clamp is supplied. Hypervolt’s Solar Insights, in beta since July 2026, splits each session into solar and grid energy. The catch is Intelligent Octopus Go: during Octopus-managed windows the charger runs in Boost and the solar modes are unavailable. If you are on that tariff and have panels, read our solar EV charging guide and our note on CT clamps.
Installation and safety
The Hypervolt is IP66 and IK10, 328 x 243 x 101mm and 6.2kg, with a 5m, 7.5m or 10m tethered cable that wraps round the unit and a Type 1 option. It is tethered only. The zappi is IP65 and IK10 according to trade listings, about 439 x 282 x 122mm, and comes tethered with a 6.5m cable or untethered, in 7kW or 22kW versions. It is the bigger box.
Both have built-in PEN fault protection and 6mA DC detection. The Hypervolt has no built-in AC RCD and needs an external Type A double-pole RCD or RCBO. myenergi’s wording on its own RCD function has changed over time, and its UK guidance still requires a separate upstream 30mA Type A RCD. myenergi also says regulations require a separate surge protection device. Hypervolt says its quotes include one as standard, with an opt-out.
Reliability and owners
The What Car? 2025 owner survey is brand-level and sits on a page marked as sponsored by Pod. It ranked Hypervolt first of 11, with 5, 4, 5 and 5 stars for installation, reliability, fault repairs and overall, a 14% fault rate and every reported fault fixed free. myenergi came joint fifth with 4, 3, 3 and 3 stars, a 20% fault rate and 27% of faults unresolved, with about half of problems ending in a replacement unit. Auto Express’s Driver Power 2024 put Hypervolt first, and Autotrader’s 2026 Drivers’ Choice named Hypervolt its best home charger, with myenergi and Easee as runners-up.
Hypervolt owners do report Wi-Fi and Ethernet drop-outs, and What Car?’s long-term tester needed a Wi-Fi extender, so signal at the wall matters for both.
Warranty
Both give three years as standard. Hypervolt extends to five years for £100 if bought within 30 days, and requires registration within 48 hours of installation. What Car? says myenergi’s can be extended to five years, but we could not verify the terms or the price.
Verdict
We score the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro 7.2 and the myenergi zappi 7.0 out of 10. Hypervolt wins on owner record, build, warranty option and unit price. The zappi wins on solar, flexibility and, at some retailers, on fitted price.
Choose the zappi if you have solar panels and want the surplus-only mode, need a three-phase supply or want an untethered charger. Choose the Hypervolt if you want the more durable and better-reviewed unit, a longer cable, or a home battery.
