Andersen A3 review
The Andersen A3 is the design-led charger with a hidden cable and the longest warranty in our set. It is also the most expensive once fitted, so it is a choice for people who care how a charger looks.

A handsome charger with a seven-year warranty and full tariff support, but the dearest in our set once fitted and a high fault rate among owners; worth it only if looks and the warranty matter to you.

The Andersen A3 is a tethered 7kW charger from a British brand that sells on looks: a hidden cable, a presence sensor and more than 100 colour and finish combinations. It also has the longest warranty in our set at seven years. The price is the catch, and so is a fault rate that is among the highest in the owner survey we found.
Price and what’s included
Andersen sells the A3 for £995, which we treat as including VAT (the page does not say). Its standard 7kW installation starts from £435, taking the fitted price to £1,430. That total is our arithmetic, not an Andersen all-in figure, and it excludes a wooden fascia and any non-standard work.
The standard installation covers a cable run of up to 15m, a Type A RCD, 40A overcurrent protection, an adaptive fuse and solar package, up to 7m of trunking and four hours on site. It is single-phase only, and Andersen sets the final price after a remote survey. Andersen’s own in-house team does the work, with a lead time of two to three weeks, and it is a Which? Trusted Trader. What Car? earlier quoted lower fitting costs, so Andersen’s prices have moved. Andersen runs a limited offer of 3,000 free miles of home charging for purchases made from 1 to 31 October 2026. We found no Amazon UK listing. Our installation cost guide explains what else can affect a quote.
Where to buy (prices seen on 10 October 2026, and they can change):
- Andersen direct (design studio): £995 charger; installation from £435 via Andersen's in-house team, 2-3 week lead time, Which? Trusted Trader
- Kelvelec (trade distributor): Andersen collection available for next-day delivery to trade (per Andersen announcement)
- Car-maker partners (e.g. Jaguar via Dick Lovett, Kia dealer Ken Jervis): Brand partnership seen in search results; the page blocks automated fetches (HTTP 403); pricing not captured
Smart features and tariffs
The Andersen App handles scheduling, remote lock and solar controls over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth only for set-up. Intelligent Octopus Go integration is generally available, and Octopus’s own page headlines that it now supports Andersen home chargers. The A3 also works with OVO Charge Anytime and EDF GoElectric. Read our Intelligent Octopus Go explainer for how the tariff works.
Solar uses a CT clamp. The standard installation includes a solar integration package, and you choose how much solar to use for each session in the app, rather than relying on a surplus-only mode. The adaptive fuse is CT-monitored and varies current between 6 and 32A on single-phase installs. Andersen does not advertise OCPP and there is no 4G or Ethernet. Our solar charging guide covers how the options work.
Installation and safety
The A3 has PEN fault detection conforming to BS 7671 722.411.4.1 (iii) and (iv), so no earth rod. It also has 6mA DC protection and 30mA AC leakage protection per the installer manual, and Andersen recommends a 40A RCBO upstream. The enclosure core is IP65; Andersen does not publish an IK rating.
It is big and heavy. The unboxed dimensions are 430 x 310 x 148mm, and an installed unit weighs 9.5 to 11.2kg. The 5.5m cable lives in a hidden compartment and cannot be swapped; the A2 offers up to 8.5m. Andersen markets the A3 as 7kW, but the installer manual rates it 7.2kW at 32A. Our tethered versus untethered guide covers why the Quartz is the socketed alternative.
What owners report
Andersen’s brand record is a split decision. In the What Car? owner survey (brand-level, on a page sponsored by Pod) it scored 4 out of 5 and tied for 2nd of 11. Installation scored 5 with 99% satisfaction, and fault repairs scored 5. But reliability scored only 3, and 28% of owners reported a fault, well above the 13% to 14% reported for Ohme, Wallbox and Hypervolt.
The company history matters because of the seven-year promise. EVIOS Plc bought the Andersen business in October 2022 and said it would honour existing warranties and fill about 200 pending orders. A Fleet News headline from 14 October 2022 reports that Andersen EV ceased trading; we could not open the article, so we cannot confirm the details. The current group structure is unverified. We found no product-level forum threads for the A3 in our sources.

How it compares
The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro offers a longer cable choice, better solar modes and a stronger owner record for less money. The Ohme Home Pro is cheaper still and smaller.

Our verdict
We score the Andersen A3 6.3 out of 10. Its seven-year warranty brings 8.0 for warranty and support, and it scores well on smart features (8.7) and safety (9.2). The price drags it down to 2.2, and flexibility is only 2.5. Buy it if the charger will be visible from the street and design is a priority. Otherwise an Ohme or Hypervolt does the same job for less.
