EV charger deals from energy suppliers compared

Supplier-fitted chargers start at £949 (OVO) and most sit near £999 at British Gas, Pod and Octopus. E.ON Next is dearer but offers four-year finance. Few tie you to a tariff, and a local quote is often as cheap.

The offers side by side

Five suppliers sell fitted chargers directly. Octopus has its own guide, so it appears here only for comparison. Every price below includes a standard installation and was read on the supplier’s page on 10 October 2026.

Supplier-fitted charger offers, 10 October 2026. 'From' prices are for the simplest job. VAT is included at OVO and Octopus; British Gas, Pod and E.ON Next do not state it in the text we read.

E.ON’s range reflects tethered or untethered models and existing or new customers. Pod’s, British Gas’s and E.ON’s allowances come from their own pages. Hive’s cable allowance and prices for longer runs sit in the shop’s basket data: its installation component is £450 for up to 10m and about £704 to £733 beyond 20m (our reading of that data).

British Gas and Hive

British Gas sells the Sync Energy Wall Charger 2 through Hive, from £999 fitted. The charger is 7.4kW and sold as a tethered or socketed model. The warranty is three years when Hive fits it and two if you buy the charger alone, and British Gas says most installs happen within four weeks (74% of them, according to its footnote). Its finance example reads “Cash price £1,547. Pay £154.70 a month for 10 months. 0% APR”, provided by Secure Trust Bank trading as V12 Retail Finance, with Hive acting as broker. That £1,547 is a representative example, not a price isolated to the charger.

British Gas’s EV Power tariff is 9.5p per kWh from midnight to 5am, and it works with any charger. Hive Power+ takes 25% off the electricity used by the charger, credited monthly in arrears.

EDF and Pod

Pod’s Solo 3S costs £999 untethered or £1,049 tethered, including installation for the 90% of customers Pod says qualify. For those who cannot pay upfront, the Pod Drive subscription is £34 a month for 36 months. That is £1,224 in total, or £225 more than paying £999 for the same charger. In return you get a five-year warranty on charger and installation (three standard plus two), a 48-hour maintenance guarantee and you own the charger at the end, Pod says.

Read the small print before signing. Pod’s page says you cannot be on a smart EV tariff at any time in the 36-month term, yet it also lists Pod Power by EDF among the benefits, so ask which tariffs it counts. The page shows £0 upfront until 1 November 2026 but an FAQ on the same page still says £99 upfront. And a Pod charger is not on Octopus’s generally-available list for Intelligent Octopus Go, so it is a poor fit for IOG households.

Pod Power at 6.18p per kWh is the cheapest off-peak rate in our tariff data, but it needs a Pod charger. EDF’s GoElectric at 6.66p per kWh takes any charger.

OVO

OVO lists three brands, with “All prices include VAT”, a free 12-month EV Charger Cover that needs activating, and extra charges in remote postcode areas. Its Charge Anytime add-on prices smart-charged home electricity at 13.33p per kWh, and OVO says all its chargers are compatible. Ohme is not, however: Charge Anytime stopped supporting Ohme chargers on 15 July 2025, according to an OVO staff statement on its community forum.

E.ON Next

E.ON Next offers the longest repayment term of the five: a £1,272 charger with no deposit, repaid in 48 monthly payments of £33.06, totalling £1,586.93. That is £314.93 of interest over four years, by our arithmetic, at 11.9% APR. Credit comes from HomeServe Finance and depends on a credit check. Next-day installation costs £100 extra on the zappi GLO and Ohme models, and every charger carries a three-year product warranty and a one-year workmanship warranty. Next Drive Smart is 8.095p per kWh.

When a supplier bundle is a good deal

  • You are already a customer and want one bill and one phone number. British Gas ties the 3-year warranty to a Hive install, and Octopus handles everything itself.
  • You cannot pay £1,000 upfront. Compare the total cost of credit: Pod Drive adds £225, E.ON adds £314.93, British Gas’s example adds nothing. Our pay-monthly guide goes through each.
  • You want a particular tariff. Pod Power needs a Pod charger. The Octopus smart rate needs one on its list.
  • You rent or own a flat. Octopus deducts the 75% grant (up to £500) from the quote, though any OZEV-authorised installer can do the same.

It is a poorer deal if you want the lowest price, a longer cable run, or hardware the supplier does not stock. Independent installers publish fitted prices from £720 (an EVEC vecGo 2.0 from Charge EV North West, VAT basis not stated) and around £949 to £999 for an Ohme. Check that any installer is OZEV-authorised if you plan to claim a grant. Our installation cost guide breaks down the extras every quote should list.

Questions people ask

Is the British Gas EV charger made by Sync?
Yes, today. British Gas and its Hive brand have sold the Sync Energy Wall Charger 2, made by Sync Energy (part of Luceco), since 12 November 2025, from £999 fitted. Before that they offered the EO Mini Pro 3, whose maker went into administration in April 2026.
Does E.ON install EV chargers?
Yes. E.ON Next sells the myenergi zappi GLO and the Ohme ePod and Home Pro with installation included, from £1,220 to £1,296 depending on model and whether you are an existing customer. The standard job covers a 0 to 5m cable run, and it offers finance at 11.9% APR (representative).
Does OVO install home EV chargers?
Yes. OVO's page lists the myenergi zappi from £949, the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro from £1,099 and the Andersen A3 from £1,249, all with a standard installation and VAT included. Remote postcodes carry extra charges, and OVO's page lists no finance option.
Can I use my own EV charger with Octopus Energy?
Yes. Octopus says its chargers work with any tariff, and a charger you already own can join Intelligent Octopus Go if Octopus lists it as compatible. Ohme, Hypervolt, myenergi zappi, Andersen A3, Wallbox Pulsar Max and Indra Smart PRO are generally available. See our Octopus charger guide.
Do I have to switch energy supplier to buy a supplier's charger?
Not at British Gas, OVO, E.ON Next or Octopus, whose pages do not make a tariff a condition of sale. Pod's cheapest electricity tariff, Pod Power at 6.18p per kWh, does require a Pod charger, and Pod Drive subscribers must stay off smart EV tariffs for the 36-month term.
